Consors paterni luminis / O Christ, Who Share the Father’s Light

Through the Year, Weeks 1 & 3, Tuesday Matins (Night)
Translated 2024.

Consors paterni luminis,
lux ipse lucis et dies,
noctem canendo rumpimus:
assiste postulantibus.

Aufer tenebras mentium,
Fuga catervas daemonum,
expelle somnolentiam
ne pigritantes obruat.

Sic, Christe, nobis omnibus
indulgeas credentibus,
ut prosit exorantibus
quod paecinentes psallimus.

Sit, Christe, rex piissime,
tibi Patrique gloria
cum Spiritu Paraclito,
in sempiterna saecula. Amen.

O Christ, who share the Father’s light,
The Light from Light, and brightest Day,
With song we interrupt the night:
Stand by your servants as we pray.

Remove all darkness from our minds;
Drive out the roving demon bands.
Expel the sleepiness that binds
The lazy soul and idle hands.

Grant thus to all your faithful throng,
O Christ, both now and all our days,
That this, our offering of song,
May profit us who sing your praise.

To You, O Christ, most kindly King,
And to the Father, glory be;
Praise to the Spirit Paraclete,
In ev’ry age, eternally. Amen.
