Haec est dies qua candidae / This is the Day Theresa’s Soul

St. Theresa of Avila, Vespers
Translated 2024.

Hæc est dies, qua candidae
instar columbæ, aelitum
ad sacra templa spiritus
se transtulit Teresiæ,

Sponsique voces audiit:
Veni, soror, de vertice
Carmeli ad Agni nuptias;
veni ad coronam gloriæ”.

Te, sponse, Iesu, virginum,
beati adorent ordines
et nuptiali cántico
laudent per omne aeculum.

This is the day Theresa’s soul,
Resplendent as a snow-white dove,
Was taken to a higher place,
The dwelling of the saints above.

And then the Bridegroom’s voice she heard:
“Come sister, come from Carmel’s height,
Come to the wedding of the Lamb,
Come take your crown of glory bright.”

O Jesus, Spouse of virgins, may
The virgins, gathered in their throng,
Adore you now and evermore,
And praise you with a wedding song.
