Aurora iam spargit polum:
terris dies illabitur,
lucis resultat spiculum:
discedat omne lubricum.
Iam vana noctis decidant,
mentis reatus subruat,
quicquid tenebris horridum
nox attulit culpae, cadat.
Ut mane illud ultimum
quod praestolamur cernui,
in lucem nobis effluat,
dum hoc canore concrepat.
Deo Patri sit gloria,
eiusque soli Filio,
cum Spiritu Paraclito,
in sempiterna saecula. Amen.
Dawn scatters light across the sky,
The day into the earth moves on,
Light’s arrows back and forward fly –
Let danger and deceit be gone.
Let night’s illusions be as naught,
The spirit’s guilt be undermined.
What darksome horrors night has brought!
Let all of them an ending find.
So may that final morning bright,
Which we await in awe profound,
Burst on us as a flood of light,
And with our song of praise resound.
To God the Father glory be,
And glory to his only Son;
Praise to the Spirit equally,
One God, while endless ages run. Amen.
